Since I was a young boy in New York City, I always loved adventure. I knew that around every corner an adventure was waiting. My family owned grocery stores across The Bronx so I had to work most days including Sundays. My family always stated that if you wanted to buy a diamond, you never asked the grocer for advice. All we knew were potatoes & tomatoes, so I went off & enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to become a diamond. Due to an injury years later, I was honorably discharged with a medical & walked off a plane in Jamaica Queens to find a future uncertain. I asked God for a blessing & then I met her, Angelina, a young princess working at her father’s grocery store. I had nothing, but I knew that I wanted her, both of us potatoes & tomatoes in bodega land, but she was surely a diamond in my eyes. I asked God for a way to be with her & He supplied one which was difficult to bear, but it also allowed me to help her family after a robbery left the old man hospitalized. I offered to protect them & work the business with them until Poppi got home healed & in strength. It took only 4 months for him to heal as well as for me to get up the courage to ask Angie’s dad for her hand in marriage. He was a tough man & I, a street kid Marine. I asked & he gave us his blessing while in the basement of the grocery, stacking supplies. In the 47 years we have been married, I worked every job imaginable to prove my worth for her love. even though some trying hiccups kept us apart, this love never faltered. Now retired, as a senior-level manager, trainer, speaker & head hunter, I can attest, that the love between two people is in fact, the adventure that braves every corner turned for an eternity.
